Hemp
is not a fad! In fact, it's one of the world's oldest crops. Hemp was
grown and used in ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia and China, and much later
throughout Europe and North America, to produce everything from the
finest linen to the hardiest work wear.
You've
probably heard that hemp fabrics are strong and long-lasting (that's
because the hemp fibre is the longest of any naturally-grown plant).
But hemp fabrics are much more than that. They're comfortable. They
breathe like any other natural fabric. They're cool in summer and warm
in winter. They resist salt and salt-water. And their weave offers
protection from the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays.
The
hemp plant requires no irrigation, fertilizer or pesticides. As our natural
resources become ever scarcer, hemp is re-gaining wide acceptance as a
renewable resource that will be an important part of our sustainable
development and environmental recovery.
